"My Best Friend's Wedding"

This movie is funny and fast-paced, it keeps you laughing for two
hours instead of wallowing in the holiday doldrums.
Julia Roberts (Steel Magnolias, Tlw Pelican Brief) stars as
Julianne Potter, a food critic who finds out her best friend Michael,

a free-lance sports writer, played by Dermot Mulroney (Young
Guns, Where the Day Takes You), is getting married.
Stunned by the news, Julianne becomes jealous and sets out to
break up the nuptials, convinced that she is in love with Michael. She
flies to Chicago plotting to steal Michael away from his bride-to-be,
Kimmy (Cameron Diaz).
Assisting Julianne with her scheming is her editor and best
friend, George (Rupert Everett), who poses as her fiance, even
though he is really homosexual. Every time her conniving plans
backfire and serve to bring Michael and Kimmy even closer.
There are a lot of comical musical interludes in this film. The
luncheon scene is hysterical as George sings "1 Say a Little Prayer
for You" to Julianne and everyone joins in. Later, they go to a karoke
bar where Kimmy is forced into the spotlight and sings to Michael.
She's so unbelievably awful it's ridiculously funny.
"My Best Friend's Wedding" is a lighthearted, feel-good comedy
with plenty of warm, touching moments in between. If you liked
Father of the Bride and Betsy's Wedding you will enjoy this film.
