Four lanes in Pahrump's future
Continued from front page
1998 and it should take about a year to complete."
The four lane expansion should begin about 7.7 miles
outside of Las Vegas to just south of the Nye County
border. According to NDOT officials, plans are being
made to go out to bid on March 19, 1998 for the final 17
mile stretch of work between Pahrump and the Sandy
Valley turnoff. Once construction begins, it is estimated
that it will take two years to complete.
Officials that the contractors will be paid for their
work by the state, who in turn will be reimbursed by the
Federal Government. The $10 million figure is the ceiling
that state officials have when negotiating the costs of the
project.
"I think it's great that they are finally fixing the high-
way," said Pahrump resident Jamie Rosenthal. "I go to Las
Vegas maybe once a week and that road can get pretty
scary. They should have done this project a long time
ago."
