Youth C ?nter...
takes another thrashing
Editors Note: This letter is about problems at the No
To Abuse Youth Center and tells the sad story in their
own words.
On Sunday, November 2, an unknown number of
vandals broke into the No To Abuse Youth Center. Entry
was made through a vent panel in the side door. A
collection of varied tools lay scattered in front of the
vandalized storage cabinets, where the perpetrators looted
several cases of soda and a massive amount of chocolate
and hard candies. What appears to have been one heck of
a pat on the back for their handy-work ensued in the form
of a private party. Furniture was strewn about the room,
toys were destroyed, play equipment for the younger kids
was smashed'and a littered mess of garbage from their
stolen goodies covered the floor.
Giddy with the thrill of not getting caught, and suc-
cessfully gaining entry to the supply cabinets, the thugs
pulled up a few recliners around a coffee table and carried
on with their celebration. Rather than leaving the same
way they entered, the vandals decided to destroy yet
another lock and door jamb on their way out. I guess it
just did not occur to them how much damage they caused,
or how much money their playful little party cost.
Sadly, this is the third destructive break-in the youth
center has suffered. What really bothers me about it is the
fact that this incident, and many others in the valley,
occur because of boredom or challenge. You may argue
that the valley doesn't need a youth center, but the simple
fact is, if Pahrump had a
decent youth center with
equipment and a youth-ori-
Flu season is just around the corner
There's nothing worse than being stuck in bed with
the flu. That's why the Arcon Pahrump Center for
Healthcare is offering help before the bug makes
its rounds.
Every Monday through November 10th,
the Pahrump Center will offer an Influenza
Vaccine Clinic. Vaccinations will be
available on Mondays from 8 a.m. to noon.
No appointment is necessary.

ented program, there would
be a lot less senseless
crimes like these.
How do I know? Be-
cause the only things taken
were edible. In this case,
the persons involved could
have helped themselves to
a number of items and
equipment openly available
in the center. It could have
beena very profitable night.
Regardless of what they did
or did not do, the main en-
tity affected here was the
center.
No To Abuse is an-
nouncing the closing of its
youth center for the winter.
Aside from the break-in, the
conditions in the center are
not capable of effectively
handling the cold evening
temperatures now, and will
offer even less warmth and
protection as winter takes
over. We are saddened to
have to shut the center
down, but are very grateful
to have had the opportunity
to serve the children of Nye
County.
No To Abuse would like
to thank again all the won-
derful volunteers and gen-
erous people who donated
time, effort, money and ma-
terials to make the center a
reality in Pahrump this
year.
Hopefully next year will
be even better. Outstand-
ing!
We do want to let you
know that the Ice Cream
Social will still be held Sat-
urday, November 22. And
yes, we will have a battle of
the bands. Mark us on your
calendar. Make the time to
be there. All adults should
be accompanied by a youth.
But if you can't bring one,
come anyway.
Sincerely,
Lynn Benjamin
