That was one of many dis- cussions that took place on Tuesday, November 4 which was held at the Nye County Board of Commissioners Meeting in Tonopah, Nev. Resolution number 97-46 is urging the Secretary of Defense to make use to the public of certain mining dis- , ..... tricts located on the Gun- nery Range and near the boundary of the Range. In some pans of the range, there are mines with world class gold that could be wort h a lot of.money accord!rig to published reports. "Our role is not to take land away from the military," said Walt Lombardo of the State Office of Nevada Division of Minerals. "We are looking at what they can relinquish." According to Lombardo, the Bullfrog mines are going to be closing in a few years and the mining industry in Beatty and the rest of south- ern Nye County could be hurt. The look for other po- tential areas is coming fast. "This is only the begin- ning of some of the areas we would like to look at," said Lombardo. "There is a big demand for materials that the land holds." "There is more than just mining," said Assemblyman Roy Neighbors. "There is the opportunity for recreation, farming, fishing and hunting. We're looking for permission to go on the ranges western border." Neighbors is attending a meeting in Washington, D.C. soon to discuss these concerns. The town of Goldfield and Esmeralda County Commissioners have already supported the resolution. "Over a third of our county is taken by the test site," said Bob Revert, vice chairman of the board. "This is a good idea and I feel if we don't act on this now, we won't get a second chance." The resolution was adopted by a 4 - 0 vote by the Nye County Commissioners.
