RESCUE AWARDIHis resume looks
like a "who's who" of search and rescue
events around the western states. Walt
"Doc" Cosdon of the Nye County Search
and Rescue office was honored for his 33
years of service dedicated to saving lives at
the weekend Search & Rescue (SAR) City
event, October 10 -12 sponsored by the
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office.
He began his years of volunteer service as
a firefighter for the Burbank, Calif. Civil
Defense in 1964, he joined the Nye County
Sheriffs Office SAR in 1971, and helped
establish several other units. Notable among
the rescue events he participated in was as a
"Tunnel Rat" rescuer in the 1971 California
earthquake and Olive View Sanitarium
collapse. Cosdon is currently a Firefighter
I at the Pahrump Volunteer Fire Dept., SAR
Technician 2 NCSO, Nye County Hazardous
Materials Team-Explosives Tech, and Nye
County Emergency Communications
Service Amateur Radio Operator. Others
attending the SAR event were Glen Schoek,
Scott and Tracy Andrews, Leroy Beadle
and Wayne Whitehead.
