Harvest Moon benefit dance
A Harvest Moon dance to benefit the Samantha Tomato
cancer fund will be held November 22 from 6-11 p.m. at
Saddle West Hotel and Casino. There will be a silent
auction, buffet and no host bar, live music, dancing and
raffles. Tickets are $25 per couple, $15 individual.

Last raci of the
season
The last Pahrump Valley
Speedway race of the season
that was supposed to take place
on October 25 was
rescheduled.The reason for the
change was due to cold
weather.
The last race is Sunday,
November 9 at 2 p.m., gate
opens at 12 noon. Final points
race for the Street Stock and
annual third Turtle Clash.
Turtle Clash is the trophy dash
winner's for 1997 and last two
of 1996 have a shoot out to see
who is the best of the best.
We will also have ourother
normal races. We will look
forward to seeing you at our
last race of the season.

The November meeting of
Pahrump Valley Genealogy
Society will be a potluck din-
ner for members and invited
guests only. The dinner will be
Tuesday, November 11 at 5-9
p.m. at the Comstock Park club-
house.
There will not be a Decem-
ber meeting. We will be dark
for the holidays.
The January 8 meeting will
be as normal, 7 p.m. at Bob
Ruud Community Center.

The Family History Center
is open to everyone wanting to
do research on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, the
center will be dosed the week
of Thanksgiving, November
25, 26 and 27. The Center will
reopen on December 2.
In December, the Family
History Center will be closed
for the holidays from Decem-
ber 18 through January 5. The
Center will be reopened to ev-
eryone on January 6, 1998 at9
a.m.

will hold a Jump Rope for the
Heart on Friday November 7
from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. atthe

Heart Association and again on

VFW meeting
Our next meeting is
Wednesday, November 12 at
7:30 p.m. We have scheduled
a safety talk by the Nye County
Sheriffs. Iask that all mem-
bers try to attend this meeting,
including auxiliary.
Tuesday, November 11
there will be a "Veterans Day"
commemorative ceremony at
11 a.m. at the VFW Post lo-
cated on Homestead road. The
public and all veterans are in-
vited to come and honor your
veterans on this day.
A free buffet luncheon will
follow. The ceremony will be
hosted by the VFW and their
auxiliary, American Legion
and auxiliary, and the Disabled
American Veterans. Our new
town manager Michael
Cosgrove will be joining us
and speaking to the veterans
and their families.
VFW Post 10054 and their
auxiliary have breakfast every
Sunday morning from 8 - 11
a.m. The canteen has a special
Monday night football, 16
ounce beer and quarter pound
hot dog for a dollar. The menu
varies each week so no one
gets tired of hotdogs. On Fri-
day, November 14 we will have
a dinner from 5-7 p.m. with T-
Bone steak on the grill at a cost
of $6.50 per person. And if the
chef cooks it's $8. Menu will
be steak, potato, veggies, salad
and dessert.
November 27, Thanksgiv-
ing Day, the VFW auxiliary
will sponsor a dinner from 2-5
p.m. Menu will be, sunshine
salad, turkey, dressing, mashed
potato, gravy and dinner rolls.
Dessert will be pumpkin,
mincemeat and pecan pie, with
lots of whipped cream, the price
will be $3.50.
