Letters Policy We welcome letters to the editor. Letters must be signed, ii i i Kiwanis "Safe Night" The Kiwanis will be holding a "Safe Night" at the Bob Ruud Community Center on Friday, October 31. Parent/teacher conferences Manse Elementary's blue track teachers will be hold- ing parent/teacher confer- ences on Thursday, Novem- ber 13, along with all other tracks. However, since blue track is out of school at this time it will be necessary for parents (blue track only) to call the school and schedule an appointment with the of- fice to conference with their teacher at 727-5252. Manse Elementry will have a minimum school day on November 13 due to par- lUl ent/Zeacher conferences. School will be dismissed ;it 11:30 a,m. with no lunch being served. Pahrump Valley High School will hold their par- ent conferences on Wednes- days November 5, from 4-7 p.m. Parents should obtain the names and room num- bers of teachers they would like to meet from their son or daughter. Teachers will be available to meet parents on a first come basis. A master schedule and map of the school will be available in the main foyer, at a table outside the counselor's of- rice. Community calendar announcements The Pahrump Science Center, 1141 S. Highway 160, Pahrump will be host- ing a "Walk and Talk" on November 1 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Join Geologist John Peck for an adventure in the great outdoors. Learn what roles water, wind, and sun have played in creating this sterling example of the Silver State. Reservations required, call (702) 727- 0896. Questions about Yucca Mountain? The Department of Energy will be hosting a public tour of Yucca Moun- tain on November 15. This free tour is open to indi- viduals over the age of 14 and will provide you with an opportunity to speak with project scientists and hear firsthand about the fascinat- ing studies being conducted at Yucca Mountain. The Las Vegas Science Center, 4101-B Meadows Lane, next to the YMCA, will be hosting a "Walk and Talk" on Saturday, Decem- her 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Scientists from the Yucca Mountain Project will es- cort you through our sculp- tured landscape. You'll spend time looking for fos- sils and learning about the geology of our area. Bring appropriate clothing, water and a lunch, Space is lim- ited and reservations are required, call (702) 295- 1312. The DOE has news and information about the Yucca Mountain Project available on the World Wide Web at: http:// www.ymp.gov. The project's web site is an ideal resource for people who want to learn more about the scientific studies and programs that take place here.
