Pahrump Valley Gazette, Thursday, October 23, 1997 AA1 [] [] [] "The Sixth Man," count down to laughter by Barney Basin Gazette Reviewer "The Sixth Man" is the tale of a five man round ball team on its way to the final four. It's the story of a three male basketball family, two brothers and one dream. This Touchstone film, which is just another way of saying Disney for adults, is filled with much of the same fare that permeates many a film carrying the big D. When the star of the team dies, the players have to rediscover themselves ala "Cool Runnings," "Son of Flubber," and "Blackbeard's Ghost." They are helped on this quest by the return of the star as a ball-stealing, stripping, slam-dunking spirit. But come final game time, it's the realization of a basic Disney dogma that helps them win the game. The genie in Disney's animated classic, "Aladdin," stated it best by buzzing in Aladdin's ear, "Be yourself." This is a recurring message in over haft of the films that come from the studio a mouse built. It is also the way Walt lived his own life. There is a lot of humor in this film, but all centers around the sight gag of an invisible spirit. True, it has been done before, it's just that this studio of craftsmen does it best. Kadeem Hardison, portrays the older, ghostly brother with worldly charm. Marlon Wayans is cast in the more demanding role of the younger brother. His character has to deal with the supernatural as well as the natural and still be believable. He carries this off very well. Rent this film then rent one of the other Disney stories, and compare. t. 2. 1 ,. Liar Liar 7.'I m 4. G Po ,DI 9. Volc g. i0. I I I I[ IIIIIII 727-5010
