The Party's on The huge ice cream social and dance planned for Pahrump's youth will go on! The line has begun to form as caring sponsors have come forth to help the kids of Pahr- ump. Ace Hardware, Kiwanis Club of Pahrump, C.R. Homes, Valley Rock and Sand, Smith's Food and Drug, Leonard Smith/Town Attor- ney and many wonderful car- ing individuals are offering their help. No To Abuse would like everyone to know how much we genuinely appreciate your efforts of commitment to Pahrump's youth. The cans will be used at fund-raisers and periodically to collect aluminum for ongo- ing projects. We are actively seeking youth-orientated bands for a musical battle of entertain- ment. All of our youth and their extended fami- 4-H alumni meeting On Thursday, October 23, at 7 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension office, (Calvada and Dandelion) there will be a community meeting for 4-H alumni, 4-H members and mini-4-H members past and present. Desert Utilities meeting PAHRUMP--All resi- dents having homes in the Allen Estates and Desert Trails areas and others af- fected by rate increases for water and sewer costs from Desert Utilities are notified of a public hearing meeting Tuesday, October 28, a 3 p.m. in the Bob Ruud Com- munity Center, Room A. Large rate increases are pro- posed for those areas and the Town of Pahrump's utilities costs for the Simpkins Park area. Officials from the Pub- lic Utilities Commission will be present to answer ques- tions. Painting the Church of Christ On November 1-2 the Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley will be giving the Church of Christ a new paint job. Saturday, November 1 will be devoted to cleaning and prepping, starting at 8 a.m. Painting will begin on Sun- day, November 2, at 12 noon. The church is located at 911 S. LolaLane, Pahrump. Come meet, contact Mike at 372- 5413 or372-1350. We are also in need of amateur acts for entertainmentto fill in acouple of hours. There is going to be live brodcasting from the TV station as well as radio and you may be discovered. So be sure and come down and join the fun. Arcon offers special for flu shots With the influenza season just around the comer, the Arcon Pahrump Center for Healthcare. 1501 E. calvada Blvd, Pahrump, is offering flu shots every Monday start- ing October 20 through No- vember 10. Canna Krietler, executive director of the center said flu shots will be available from 8 a.m. to noon October 20, Oc- tober 27, November 3 and November 10. No appoint- ment is necessary. The vac- cine contains three different flu virus strains that are likely to circulate in the upcoming winter. The flu season begins in late Octoberandpeaks in mid- January. Health authorities recommend shots be adminis- tered from October to mid- November. Ham radio classes On October 27, free radio classes will start at 7-9 p.m. at the Pahrump senior center, on Monday nights and thereaf- ter. Any questions please call the Family Resource Center at 727-3885. Women's self- defense class The Nye County Sheriffs Office will be hosting a basic self-defense class for women. This class will be instructed using the rape aggression de- fense methods of teaching, and is open to women 13 years of age and older. The class will be held at the Calvada sports complex, Highway 160 at Leslie from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on November 1, 8, 15 and 22. This is a sixteen hour class, and par- ticipants should plan on at- tending all four sessions. Com- fortable clothing which allows free movement, and sneakers are recommended. There will be a $10 charge to cover the cost of the manual. This manual allows students a lifetime offreereturn andprac- tice at any RAD instruction location or seminar. Application and sign-up for this class may be made in advance at the sheriffs office, or may be done at the class site on the firstday. Call 751-7000. Kids Kiub after school latchkey program Kids Klub is an after- I school latchkey program for children in elementary school. We offer this program to fami- lies who want a safe, caring and fun-filled environment for theirchildren during the hours after school gets out until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will bus children from their home school to the Kids Klub site at Rosemary Clarke Middle School. Once at the middle school, the Latchkey Director Julie Keating will greet them and then they will be escorted to the Kids Klub classroom. There, they will enjoy three hours of supervised activities that will include a snack, homework time with assistance as needed and rec- reation.
