True die hard race fans defied the freezing cold Saturday
night at the Pahrump Valley Speedway to cheer on their
favorite driver.
The night had the usual three division races with the
IMCA, Dwarf and Street Stock cars all battling for the
checkered flag and much needed points. This being the
second to last race of the season, several drivers were
scrambling to move up in the standings.
The IMCA began first, with number 41, Henry Ford in
front. He was quickly passed by Frank Bridwell (number
72) and held onto his lead for the win. Number 81, Robin
Ruud finished second and car number 00 Jimmy Kimball
took third.
The second IMCA race began with Jason Pike (number
23) in the lead but he was overtaken by car number 77,
Michael Berger midway through the race. Berger held on to
his lead and took the checkered flag. Pike then came in
second and car number 53, Henry Anderson settled for third.
The dwarf cars took to the dirt next. The first heat began
with James Bonetti (number 9x) taking a strong lead and
kept it for the remainder of the race for the win. Car number
17, Jay Ewing took second and Robert Ewing (number 16)
finished in third.
The second dwarf race began with car number 25, Corey
Lasiter in the first place slot and holding his position for the
win. Number 2x Ronnie Williams placed second and car 57,
Brandon Contrad grabbed third.
The Street Stocks rumbled onto the track next with car

number 89X, Larry Hilbig in first, only to find himself
quickly passed by Jimmy Kimball, (number 0). Kimball
maintained his lead for the win, with car number 17, Michael
Hildebrand in second and Steve Gertson, (number 51)
taking third.
The second heat began with number 72, Harley Cooks in
the lead. Steve Hamrick, in car number 8, made a strong
move near the end of the race to over take Cook. Hamrick
punche d the speed and held off another strong contender
Alan Levinson (number 13). Levinson finished second and
Cook settled for third.
The third Street Stock heat began with car number 555,
Keith Gott in first. Car number 52, Anthony De Biase passed
Gott midway through-and fended off both Gott and Tom
Baird (number 2) to take the checkered flag. Baird finished
in second and Gott came in third.
The Speedway next saw the trophy dashes with the
Dwarf division first. Bonetti took home the trophy, Laster
came in second andcar 17, Jay Ewing took third. The IMCA
division was won by Pike, with Ruud in second, and Bridwell
taking third. The Street Stock trophy race was won by
Kimball. Hamrick placed in second, and Levinson settled
for third.
The Dwarf main race took the track after a chilly inter-
mission. Jay Ewing found himself in first early on but, his
luck ran out when Bonetti (9x) passed him to take the lead.
Bonetti's teammate, Ronnie Williams (2x) was in second
the entire race but passed Bonetti on the last lap for the win.
Bonetti came in second and car number 10, Jay Thom took
third.
Pike and Ruud went at it once again in the 20 lap IMCA
main event. Pike scrambling for last minute points to defend
his championship title, made a valiant effort to unseat Ruud.
Ruud however, would not relinquish his first place position
to Pike. The two battled it out the entire race, the whole time
Kimball eying for an opening to sneak around both of them.
In an unusual twist the race ended with only five drivers left
on the track, as spinouts or mechanical problems forced
others out of competition. Ruud won, with Pike placing
second and Kimball finishing third.
Street Stock cars came out for their main, marking the
last race of the night. With numerous wrecks in the race, the

wrecks involved Kimball
and Gott smashing into each
other, creating a mangled
mess. The race stopped for
almost a half an hour while
the crash crew pulled the
two cars apart.
Gott did start off the race
in first but the crash forced
him to the back. Anthony De
Biase (52) moved in and kept
his lead through most of the
race until Levinson overtook
him and remained there for
the win. De Biase grabbed
second, and Homer Rush
(number 46) came in third.
The Speedway had one
of its lowest attendance to-
tals of the year due to the
bone chilling cold. By race' s
end there were roughly 75 or
so remaining, proving that
Pahrumpians who love their
racing are the proven bold in
the cold.
