"LIARLIAR" Lotsa Laughs
by Barney Basin
Gazette Reviewer
"LIARLIAR" a loony loose locomotive is fight on track
for being one of the funniest freewheeling films of the
season.
In past Carrey cinema carnage, Jim has been the perma-
nent Oz resident, out of step with the rest of the world,
resulting in the humor of the story. In this production the
laughter and lunacy is spread through out the ensemble so
smoothly that even some of the straightest characters have
funny lines.
That doesn't mean the Carrey is not his usually madcap,
mugging maniacal self, it just means that there are so many
avenues of humor in this production that it keeps the viewers
from getting Carrey overkill.
Carrey's character is Fletcher Reede, a fast talking law-
yer who crossed the line between truth and fiction so often
that he has no idea where it is.
"X Files" declares that the truth is out there so in true "X"
style a birthday wish made on blown candles forces this
sharp tongued liar to tell the truth for 24 hours.
Reede has to struggle with the truth, defend his client and
keep his ex-wife from moving to Boston with their son.
The laughs are so fast and furious in the codrt room
scenes, where Carrey is representing his client, a bleached-'
blond, buxom, bed-bouncing bimbo, in a divorce settle-
ment, that you may have to stop and rewind to catch them all.
Jennifer Tilly is hilarious as the less than faithful client,
but then there had only been seven indiscretions in the life
of the marriage.
For an evening of nothing but laughter you can't go
wrong with renting "LIARLIAR."
