:: COMMUNICATIONS PUBLIC HEARINGS
As a result ofs in federal and state laws, the Nevada Public Utility Commission will be
conducting conSumer sessionslhroughout Nevada on issues related to telecommunications. The
availability and?ffordablity of telecommunications services in homes, schools, libraries and health
care facilities are of special concern, particularly in rural counties, Federal imd state law entitle
schools and libraries to receive certain ][iscounts on telecommunicatfons srvices and the Commis-
sion is interested in hearing recoons on what level of discounts axe appropriate and upon
which services the discounts slmuld beapplied. Add'gi'oly, certain federal and state funds will be
available to assist in providing telecommunications services and rates to medical care facilities, low-
income and rural customers which are reasonably comparable to those available in urban areas. The
Commission is interested in recommeatlations regard'ulg any services or rates in rural areas that are
not reasonably comparable to those available in urban areas. The Commission seeks public
comment concerning the need for extensions of service or improvements in service in the rural areas
served by Nevada Bell. As a result oflarier proceedings before the Commission, limited funding is
available for Rural Improvement Projects in Nevada Bell service territories. All interested consumers
are encouraged to attend and provide commeats for consideration by the Commission.
