Harvest Festival Section, September. 1997 B9 Harvest Festival Parade Everyone will choose their favorite part of the Harvest Festival Parade on Saturday, September 13th. The Parade is surely a major happening of the festival weekend. This year's parade theme is "Pahrump and Progress" and there are expected to be nearly 200 entries. This year the choosing of the theme was accomplished by conducting a contest among the Pahrnmp Valley Schools. All classes were eligible to enter and submit their chosen theme. Bonnie Ludwig's woodwind class of Rosemary Clarke Middle School submitted the winning entry and as their reward, the class will be the Grand Marshal's of this year's parade. Leading the parade will be the U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard from Yermo, Calif. near Barstow. On January 1, 1985 the U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard made their first appearance at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. On September 13,1997, they will make their first appearance at the Harvest Festival Parade. m In addition to the Marine Corps, the Air Force Color Guard from Nellis Air Force Base and the221st Battalion unit of the National Guard will have entries in the parade. The parade route is the same as in past years, north on Hwy 160 from Loop Road to BoothilL Four announcing locations will be positioned along the route at: 1) Saddle West; 2) Chamber of Commerce; 3) Bank of America; and 4) Davis Lumber. The Harvest Festival Parade is sponsored by the Pahrump Valley Chamber of P00adeR0ute 'ns at Loop R0ad/Ends B00thill / Chrktoo Park Arcon's Cute Countr0000 Bab,00 Contest On Sunday, Septeml)er 14. P.E.C./Arcon Cute Country Baby Contest will take place at 1 p.m. Entrants are placed in tvo age groups: 6 months to 12 months dnfantst, and 12 months ! day to 18 months (toddlers). They are judged on personality, presentation and "cuteness." The tlarest Festival & Fair Board, Preferred Equities Corporation and the Arcon Pahrump Center fir Healthcare recognize the need to bring a dialysis center to Pahrump. A'ith that in mind. the .judges vill be three local kidney patients.
