Oh well! New School Superintendent The school year begins on August 25, 1997, with Dr. D. Don Francom as the new Esmeralda County School Dis- trict Superintendent. Francom's duties began in July, visiting all the schools, board meetings, preparing and organizing all activities and schedules for the upcoming year. Don and his wife Barbara have six children and the youngest daughter Kate will be a freshman at Tonopah High School. They had been residing in Panaca, Nev. the Dr. Don Francom past five years when this posi- tion became available, they checked it out and liked it. "I like it here because it's quiet, peaceful, has a few hot days, but the nights are nice and cool. My hobbies are trying to get enough rest,to do some fishing in Fish Lake Valley, get lots of reading and some traveling. I am happy to be here and this is the kind of school district I want. With his educational background and experience, he is qualified to teach any grade kindergarten through high school. Francom graduated from Utah State University, receiv- ing an Ed. D. in curriculum Development and Supervision in 1980. He was Lincoln county School District Superintendent from 1993-97 where he directed educational programs in eight schools in four counties. 727-4144 Prior to 1993, he held administrative positions in edu- cation in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Francom states his goal is to serve in a position that will utilize his abilities and acquired competencies. The com- munity will be glad to assist him in any way possible. New bus mechanic for Esmeralda Ed Stidman is the new bus mechanic for the Esmeralda County School District. Ed has 10 years of service in public transportation in Vancouver, Wash., and the past seven years, his own trucking company in Mohave, Calif. He and his wife Kay are raising four grandchildren, Destiny, Dylan, Dakota and Collin. Stidman is interested in AT&T grants to school districts that need help and will pursue applying for a grant to update the buses and replace the radios with cellular phones. "My goal is to provide the safest and most economic transportation for our children in this county," stateo Stidman. Sheriff's report Neal Doyle Barney was booked August 7 into Goldfield jail on charge of second offense DUI, driving on revoked license, open container. Bail was set at $3,530. He remains in custody. William Louis Price was booked August 4 into Gold- field jail on bench warrant for traffic citations. NHP transported him to Sparks, Nev.
