Wynonna Judd spotted in Pam'ump?
by Patti Babcock
Oakridge Landing is the perfect place to be on a sunny
Sunday to enjoy the fishing and shade. Last Sunday, July 20,
the crowd was enjoying more than fishing. All eyes were
fixed on the singer moving from the band platform onto the
ramp/bridge. No wonder. Wynonna Judd in Pahrump?
The auburn-haired woman looks just like the famous
singer. Sounds like her, too. She even plays the guitar. Is it
an illusion, or is Wynonna Judd really performing in Pahr-
ump?
Kathy Johnson is so per-
fect in her impersonation of
the popular singer, it's easy
for the audience to believe
they are seeing and hearing
Judd. The look, the move-
ment, the sound flow so natu-
rally, for the moment
Johnson is Wynonna Judd to
her appreciative fans.
Johnson, who has been
singing publicly since the
sixth grade, was giving a spe-
cial performance. A birth-
day gift for her mother Judy
Cummings, "who has en-
couraged me everyday." Ri-
chard Cummings, a shift
manager at Terrible's Town
Casino, did his part as chief
barbe que cook for family and
friends.
WYNONNA?-Kathy Johnson impersonates the star.
Entertainment was free to all, much to the delight of a
group of regular patrons who seek respite from heat and
pressures fishing at the ponds or just relaxing in the wel-
come shade.
Johnson's "Kathy's Country Karaoke" can be enjoyed
Saturday nights at the Four Mile Bar on Boulder Highway
and Sahara in Henderson. She also performs for private
groups. She likes to sing Patsy Cline songs and a variety of
other country music.
An agent saw her per-
form and told her she was
perfect to impersonate
Wynonna Judd. Johnson
"gave it a try." Audience re-
sponse has proved the agent
was right..
The singer also has a
day job, advertising and pub-
lic relations coordinator for
New York, New York Ca-
sino in Las Vegas. ALas
Vegas resident for 14 years,
Johnson says, " Pahrump's
Oakridge Landing is the ul-
timate place to be on a hot
day."
