Pahrump Valley Gazette, Thursday, July 3, 1997 AA1 "F ierce Creatures," fishly creative by Barney Basin Gazette Reviewer If you're a fan of "A Fish Called Wanda," then "Fierce Creatures" is going to be a fun-filled feast for you. Even if you never establish eye contact with Wanda, the fish, this flick is too good to miss. From start to finish it's 90 minutes of pure perky pleasure. Part of what makes this film work is the re-uniting of Wanda cast members Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese and Michael Palin. In this tale, mean media mogul McCain (Kline) acquires a zoo. He sends wildly wonderful Willa (Curtis) to run it, along with his lazy, lecherous, lame-brained son, (also Kline). Cleeves plays Rollo, the current zoo director, who is out of favor with other zoo keepers because he wants only fierce creatures in his zoo. To make matters worse, almost every time Cleeveg runs into Kline or Curtis, he has abevy of beautiful babes in his arms or his trousers around his ankles, hence gaining him an unearned reputation as a super stud. To further complicate Cleeves' character he is constantly being "bugged" by insect curator "Bugsy" Malone (Palin). With typical British upper lip and farcical humor, the film reaches a satisfying conclusion. Even through the film has many sexual references, it is all done with typical fun and high humor. Curtis is a delight to watch. She portrays her character as being smart, sassy, saucy, sexy and side-splitting funny. At this point in her career it would appear that her star power out-shines her mother. One of the best lines in the film is when Curtis rejects Kline's heavy handed come-on by telling him, "...because what we have is special." "Fierce Creatures" will make for a night of delightful enter- tainment. I This Friday, July 4th, the theatre will only have one showing of each feature at 6p.m. We will show Ratman and Robin an `# Speed 2 at 6 p.m. Normal schedule resumes on 715197 GrumDv's v00>Eo" 9:30am - 10pm 1500 E, Hwy. 372 Pahrump.
