Thursday, ]uly 3, 1997 Pahrump Valley Gazette Story time atthe library Eyes wide, fascinated children listened to Charlene Board tell stories Monday moming during the Pahrump Community Library summer reading program. The three and four year old group began with songs, followed by storytelling. Next came the creative work. decorating a pair of sunglasses with feathers, hearts and glitter. A little boy, who cried when his mother left, quieted to hear about the alligator filling his tummy with one little frog after another. He left wearing designer sunglasses and a big smile. The enthusiastic youngsters packed the tiny children's section. Enrollment for this, and the other three age groups, is forced to have a limited enrollment determined on a first come, first served basis. The lucky three to twelve year aids who are in the program will have programs tailored to their age which follow the theme. "West- ward Ha! Follow the reading trail." Each child is required to read 12 books during the eight week session and to write a book report. Parents shared their children's enthusiasm for the summer activity, and said the children look forward to attend- ing. The program is sponsored by Preferred Equities Corpora- tion (PEC) for the fourth year. The program's goal is to "encourage children to read in a non-academic setting and to in- traduce the library as a resource for pleasure reading."
