Essay winners
The Pahrump Valley Re-
publican Women will present
savings bonds to the top three
winnersoftheirannual Ameri-
canism essay contest at their
monthly June 9 meeting. Cer-
tificates of participation will
be given to all 63 entrants at
their respective schools.
The contest is open to all
fifth- and sixth-grade students
and the winners are chosen by
an outside panel of judges.
This year's presenter will
be Dell Haas, longtime Re-
,ublican holder of various
state offices.
Refuge film
at library
A slide presentation on the
Ash Meadows National Wild-
life Refuge will be shown Sat-
urday, June 7, at 9:30 a.m. at
the Pahrump Community Li-
brary, 2101 E. Calvada Blvd.
Friends of the Library is
offering the program, pro-
vided by Beth St. George,
outdoor planner for the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service.
The next meeting of
Friends of the Library will be
at 7 p.m. Sept. 3, being dark in
July and August.

Center provides
emergency help
Families in times of need
with a variety of unexpected
problems and emergoncies
can find help at the Pahrump
Family Resource Center, 2220
E. Nevada West Blvd., Ste.
3C.
An Emergency Relief Pro-
gram at the center offers fami-
lies referrals to seek clothing,
shelter, health needs, food,
transportation, support
groups, education and em-
ployment.
"It is our mission to de-
velop and provide programs
and referral services to meet
the needs of Pahrump and the
preservation of our families,"
a center spokesperson said.
The "Help Seniors" pro-
gram is another referral ser-
vice that is an important fea-
ture of the center.

Legion sets
installation
of officers
The Edward McDaniel
American Legion Post 22 and
its auxiliary will have an in-
stallation of officers at 7 p.m.
June 19 at the VFW Post, 4651
S. Homestead Road.
A pot luck dinner will fo|:
low the ceremonies. The pub-
lic is invited.
The new Legion officers
to be sworn in are: David
