By the time this article is published, we will have spent
a busy weekend celebrating the annual Jim Butler Days
celebration. We do hope everyone had a wonderful time
and was able to visit with folks we haven't seen for some
time.
Every year about this time we try to present a 55 Alive/

ever, we need at least 10 people registered before the
class can be presented. If anyone is interested please call
the Senior Center at 482-6450.
Perhaps you folks living in the outlying areas would be
interested as well.
The course addresses driving frustrations, unrecog-
nized loss in vision, hearing and the effect it can have on
your driving ability, effects of alcohol and medications,
right-of-way rules, colors and shapes of road signs, and
many other important tips on driving requirements.
It is eight hours of classroom instruction and the
charge is $8.
This course can help reduce your chance of being
involved in a traffic accident, help maintain your mobil-
ity and independence, and save on your automobile
insurance.
We send our sincere sympathy and prayers to the
family of Crystal (Becky) Carpenter who passed away on
Monday, May 19. Becky has lived in Goldfield for many
years and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. This grand
lady will be missed, but her wonderful ways and beautiful
smile will never be forgotten.
We celebrate the Silver Anniversary of the Nutrition
Programs for the Elderly to honor the signing of the Older
Americans Act, 25 years ago, by President Nixon. The
Older Americans Act Elderly Nutrition Program pro-
vides home-delivered and congregate meals to millions
of senior citizens, and is expected to grow much larger as
our population ages.
Quite often these meals are the only source of nutrition
the senior will have during the day whether it be through
a home-delivered meal or at a senior center or congregate
dining site, promoting healthy living and linking older
people to other essential community services.
Everyone must work together to support these pro-
grams, especially in the rural areas of Nevada. A thought
to remember: "Some day soon I will become a senior
citizen."
We had a nice visit with Richard Gregory, the van
driver at the Beatty Senior Center. It pleases us to have
seniors from other centers stop by for lunch.
Our thanks to Helen
Reed for the fresh rhubarb
which was immediately
used for a delicious rhu-
barb crisp for all to enjoy.
And to Charlotte Kelley for
those fresh eggs that always
add that extra touch of
Fr0 {}the[ freshness to our meals.
