was a new site manager in Pahrump a year ago,
she said. "The new site manager didn't like the
rest of us and it has been a dysfunctional year...no
one was in charge."
She stated that (Chairman Dick) "Carver said
'if we've done the wrong thing, we will have to
back up and change it'. "Give us 3 months and

Pahrump Town Board member Gary Hollis
stood up and said, "I support the seniors on this.

Pat Foster, Nye county treasurer, toldthe story that
the seniorcenter kept her rnor alive dining her last
fewyears andthatit was very imponam to herand her
family. "Ilaere used to over 100 participants daily.
Now there are only 30 or 40," she said
Chairman Carver wanted to table the decision
to rescind the new operations manual because of
the amount of time they needed to devote to the
budget problem. Tiff s nonaction caused the seniors
present to become even more irate and several
commissioners were surrounded by angry
participants during the break.
Commissioner Ira "Red" Copass, who
represents Pahrump, acts like he is at his wit's end
over the senior center problem. "I really don't
know what to do," he said. "What they want to
do is to run it themselves, but at the same time,
they want money from the county to run it."
"There are about 3 factions down there and
some say they don't like the site manager. Others
say she is well-liked. You have a bunch of adults
acting like 6-year-olds. If this is a federal program,
then certain rules apply. We have to follow them.
Like, some want to smoke, others don't. It's a

The commissioners had to
deal with a similar senior uprising

bickering has gone back and
