hearing
The U.S. Department of
Energy is holding a public
hearing on January 23,
1997, in Las Vegas, Ne-
vada, to receive comments
on the Department's pro-
posal to amend its siting
guidelines that it will use
to determine the suitabil-
ity of the Yucca Moun-
tain, Nevada, site for de-
,velopment,. as a repository.
Two meetings are sched-
uled in Las Vegas, Nevada,
at the University of Ne-
vada, Las Vegas, 4505
Maryland Parkway, Moyer
Student Union, Second
Level, Lounge #201 at
12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Both
presentations will be iden-
tical.
The proposed amend-
ments would concentrate
the regulatory review on
the analyses of overall re-
pository performance at
Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
This would enhance the
ability of the Department
to provide the public with
a more understandable
conclusion about the suit-
ability of the Yucca Moun-
tain, Nevada, site for de-
velopment as a repository.
The scheduled hearings
will provide opportunities
to provide comments on
the proposed amendments.
Written comments must
be receivedonor before
February 14, 1997.

Neighbors named committee
Chairman
CARSON CITY - Powerful veteran Assembly-
men Bob Price, D. North Las Vegas, has announced
that he has named fellow Democrat 36th district
Assemblyman Roy Neighbors, Tonopah, to assume
chairmanship of the powerful assembly taxation com-
mittee.
Price, a second ranking member of the assembly
named his vice chairman Neighbors to take over the
interim leadership of the key committee, putting the
rural legislature in a prominent role.
The ailing Price has been confined to a wheel chair
due to recent surgery and has entrusted the important
taxation committee chairmanship to Neighbors with
whom he has worked closely during past sessions.

Energy (DOE) and state,
local and public interest
groups will be comple-
mented by an afternoon
round-table discussion of
the issues.
The agenda for the sec-
ond day includes updates
on program activities
within the Office of Civil-
ian Radioactive Waste
Management (OCRWM)
and presentations on reduc-
ing hydraulic uncertainties
at Yucca Mountain.
The meeting is open to
the public and, in a change
from the usual, will begin
at 8 a.m. both days.
The meeting will be held
in the Bob Ruud Commu-
nity Center, 150 N. High-
way 160, Pahrump, Ne-
vada.
